DEM was engaged by Global Switch, to provide architectural, interior and landscape design services for a major co-location service facility at Ultimo – Global Switch Sydney West – which was completed in 2005. The facility was an adaptive re-use of the original Government Printers Offices Building on Sydney CBD’s western fringe. The project involved the refurbishment and recladding of the existing building shell and creation of a state-of-the-art data facility together with sophisticated administration accommodation.

Following the success of Global Switch Sydney West, DEM undertook the design, BIM documentation and tender documentation for the adjoining Global Switch Sydney East Data Centre. The new iconic building adopts a unique machine-like aesthetic to reflect the highly technical functions of the building. Silver metallic ‘veils’ used to clad the building also wrap up and over the rooftop plant thereby screening the plant areas from nearby high rise buildings.
