Wally's Walk
Macquarie University

North Ryde, Sydney

Upgrade of the main pedestrian spine within the Macquarie University campus

DEM was the principle design consultant for the reconstruction of Wally’s Walk, named as a tribute to Dr. Walter V. Abraham, Macquarie University’s Planner from 1965 to 1983.

Wally’s Walk provides a direct link east to west across the campus, from the Macquarie University Research Park to the Early Childhood Building, a distance of approximately 800 metres. It provides forecourts to major buildings and incorporates connections to secondary and tertiary access paths.

The upgrade works enhanced the pedestrian experience and the amenity of the campus by improving legibility, access and mobility. The design also reinforced the pedestrian ‘street’ character of the walkway and provided a consistency in materials and quality of finishes for the entire length while also incorporating individual focus areas.
