DEM provided design services for the 11 kilometre M5 East Motorway  which included the preparation of an urban design and landscape plan for the overall route; detailed urban design and landscape plans for key areas; a management and implementation strategy; and detailed urban design guidelines. Consideration was given to tunnel portal design, road interchanges, noise amelioration including walls and mounding, landscape edge conditions, built elements and motorway details. The work was extended beyond the road corridor to include a linear public park.

DEM worked closely with the RTA to facilitate the community consultation process and undertook liaison with DUAP (Dept Urban Affairs and Planning), UDAS (Urban Design Advisory Service) and the RTA.

In addition to the road and tunnel design DEM was responsible for the urban design and architecture of the Turrella ventilation stack.
