The challenge with this project was the steepness of the site. The objective of the design was to create a home that would be practical, whilst minimising excavation. The garage and the entry level required 3m retaining walls with suspended concrete slabs; by doing this the 3rd and 4th levels only required timber bearers and joist.

The client also wished to maximise ocean views and the only way to do this was to design all of the living areas on the upper two levels. Given the fact that it was a four storey design, the incorporation of a lift was needed for easy access to each of the levels. Glass was used on the upper level lift shaft, so that views to the ocean were maximised upon arrival in the lift.
