A new town designed by DEM to contribute to the vitality, diversity and strength of greater Ningbo. The 500 hectare new town for 120,000 people embraces the Cicheng Ancient World Heritage Town as the cultural core of the New Town and creates a new and vital economic centre as well as a desirable place to live and work.

Cicheng New Town is distinguished by a balance between economic growth, social progress and the effective protection and enhancement of the natural environment. Central to the design is retention and restoration of waterways, re-vegetation with plants of high habitat value, water management, and preservation and enhancement of the natural features of the site. Buildings aimed at achieving best practice energy efficiency and generation of renewable energy were also proposed.​​
