1 Garden Square
Gordon, Sydney
Restoration, renovations and extensions to a derelict Inter-War Spanish Mission bungalow.
The internal fabric of the existing dwelling, located adjacent to the Gordon Baptist Church, had deteriorated extensively and the dwelling was not deemed to be livable.
The project involved retention of important features of the building and upgrade of the front half of the dwelling to create safe and functional internal spaces for the Church including meeting rooms and offices. A single storey addition was constructed at the rear of the site to provide a multi-purpose breakout space without compromising the heritage significance of the property.
Overgrown vegetation was also cleared from the site and the front garden reinstated with an Inter-War garden layout to enhance the building and streetscape, and improve the amenity and functionality of the garden.
Adaptive reuse of the building has resulted in the continued use and conservation of this heritage property.
