1 Garden Square, Gordon

DEM was commissioned to design and document restoration works, renovations and an extension to a derelict Inter-War Spanish Mission bungalow at 1 Garden Square, Gordon. The internal fabric of the building had deteriorated extensively and the dwelling was not deemed to be livable. The project involved retention of the important features of the building and upgrade of the front half of the dwelling to create safe and functional internal spaces. At the rear of the site a single storey addition was constructed to provide a multi-purpose breakout space for the Gordon Baptist Church, located on the adjoining property. The remnant portions of the bungalow were upgraded for use as meeting rooms and offices for the Church’s clergy.
Overgrown vegetation was also cleared from the site and the front garden reinstated with an Inter-War garden layout.
